PTSD is not merely a psychological or psycho/social condition or diagnosis.

There is a huge moral element to it measurable according to past 'Values System/Beliefs' WITH motivation which is different for every individual.

Once upon a time, when men returned from war they stayed for a time in Seminary to again find balance/homeostasis; to heal at their core before returning to society, family, friends and the mundane work of daily life. This was available for most at the time even though many did not see the necessity for it, and it seems it was a far better situation than what's available for men today.

Without Jesus Christ, sincerely don't have a clue about how to deal with PTSD on a professional level. Lacking PTSD after so much trauma...Know your motivations in those conditions of battle were good and that God is with you, protecting your spirit from the horrors. Both aspects of the psycho/spiritual person must be present to avoid it. Though you claim to be a person unwilling to attend church...God has to be with you and you're doing what he wishes because if not, you would be a mess.

What are you defending in another land? Your manhood? If I go into my neighbors yard and start to eat his crop and he swings at me and misses and I slug him is that defense?

Michael’s last comments made me think of a Bible verse, 2 Samuel 10:12, where Joab, who was King David’s military commander said “ Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the Lord do that which seemeth Him good.”

'And God's magic still happens. Perfect ending to this memorable podcast with the Centurions. The young men already quite skilled. Important questions asked. A highlight of their lives is going to the bookstore and watching you identify old treasures there. Your talking about the importance of your grandparents helps me realize even more the part I play in my grandsons' lives growing up in a trashed world. The conversation on Dog Kings....esp. Trump serving at MacDonalds and Bibi....helpful perspective in connecting dots. The best part for me is your emphasis on 'telling' oneself to BE courageous....not asking. And no labeling of PTSD. You never said PTSD does not exist. You are describing what one can do to help avoid or mitigate it. Your story. It reminds me of my sister, Patty, who was labeled bipolar early in her tortured life by the truly evil psychiatrists who knew nothing about her. I told her to stop referring to herself as 'bipolar.' That along with other support, she blossomed and began seeing herself differently. I told her she was the most brilliant counselor I ever had, intelligence off the charts...and the best company...and funny. When she died, she saw herself as a whole beautiful woman. She had slowly rebuilt her crushed soul. Thank you for this WONDERFUL podcast. I do practice being more Thai every day before I get up....letting go of yesterday. THANK YOU.

Some people can maintain a mind over matter mindset. Some are stronger than others across the board. Children from the same abusive home come out of it different. None forget, but some can move on, some maintain denial and others crumble. I am glad that you are still leading and fighting the war at hand. We need experienced soldiers who can help us. Also so glad you're doing this podcast with the exceptional young men.
