Jesus recruited His disciples with the message that they must be willing to walk away from family, wealth and possessions in order to follow Him. In parables, He taught about the dangers of such attachments.
The key, however, is to be WILLING to give up what is of this world, including one's life; to sacrifice.
He knew we would be tempted and found wanting if we succumb to the temptations of this world.
