Coming at it from another perspective, as someone also with considerable time outside the USA, I'm in agreement with you although for some different reasons at the increasing strife and violence in the USA leading to civil war. But more like the former Yugoslavian wars (1991-2001), or the Angolan civil war (1975-2002). Not the 19th century bloody pageantry. No clear sides, no simple choices.
