The difference between a massive cloud that hurts nobody versus a Bhopal-sort that kills thousands can be little more than windspeed and direction. And whether you have a mask. Or even a drone to pop-up for a look-see on which way to go. Many people asked me about masks over the years.

I’ve used many sorts of masks in hundreds of gas attacks in places like Hong Kong, Thailand, USA.

I look at gear through war-correspondent-eyes and so I go with top quality: Avon FM-54 is best I have used. But others like Mira are 25% the price and 90% as good. I go with best because I was using constantly and for extended periods. I do not know anything about the low-grade protective gear because that is not the water I swim in. I recommend something like Mira unless you have pockets for Avon.
